Autumn is now well underway in Derbyshire and the trees are starting to put on their annual display. Along with the arrival of the Autumn colours comes the start of the season of dark nights. This will be especially noticeable in a fortnights time when the clocks go back and we will only have around nine hours of daylight. The dark nights can offer encouragement to the less than honest among us who use the dark to remain unseen whilst they prowl around gardens and sheds. Now would be a good time to review your outside lighting. Consider installing lights covering doors and entrances to sheds and outbuildings. Thieves like to remain anonymous and generally don't like to be illuminated for all to see. A good tip is to place your lights on a P.I.R. sensor. This has a two fold effect, it doesn't annoy your neighbour by being constantly on (make sure you angle the light so you are not shinning into you neighbours property) and second the human eye and brain are programmed to recognise change, so a light coming on will draw your attention. |
